Literary Analysis: Analyze Plot and Setting
Review Plot

Review Plot

plot = what happens in a story

climax = turning point of a story

complications = events that make the problem worse (complications also = rising action)

conflict = problem to be solved

resolution = how the conflict is resolved

falling action = events that lead to the resolution

How Does Setting Affect Plot? Setting often affects the conflicts that the characters face. For example, the setting of “Dragon, Dragon” is a make-believe kingdom. Think about the people who live in a kingdom, like kings and magicians. What problems might these characters face in a make-believe kingdom that real people might not? What if you changed the setting of the story? Would they encounter the same problems?

Think About Setting Ask yourself how the story would change if it were set in the present and in a city. With a partner, make a new chart to show how this setting would affect the story. Share your ideas with the class.
