Decodable Passage 19

Far Away

“Some day,” Ray tells Gail, “I plan to take a trip far, far away.”

“Where will you go?” asks Gail.

“Maybe I will sail to Spain,” says Ray. “I’d like to go this very day. Spain is way across the sea. It has big mountains and wide plains. I can play in Spain, if it does not rain very much. I will ride the subway and the fast train. I will stay until May. It will be a fine holiday.”

“Can you go to Australia?” asks Gail. “That’s even farther away than Spain.”

“How can I get there?” Ray asks.

“You can take a plane, or you can sail,” says Gail, “but you cannot take a train. Australia is a continent in the southern hemisphere. The mainland is a big island. You can play in the sand and hike on trails. You can stay for days and days, and you can mail me notes from there. You may get to play with a kangaroo that has a big tail!”

“That will be fun,” says Ray, “but maybe I’ll go even farther away.”

“You don’t say?” asks Gail.

“Yes, I just may aim for a trip to space,” Ray says.

“That’s great,” says Gail, “but how will you get all that way?”

“I will find a way. I may ride a rocket ship.”

“Explain how you will pay for your fun trip to space,” Gail says.

“I will find a way,” says Ray. “And, I just can’t wait!”
