Are stories really that important? Discuss your ideas with a group.

How to Engage in Discussion

  • 1. Give your ideas. Include examples to support them.

  • 2. Ask and answer questions.

  • 3. Show you are listening to other people’s ideas. Respect their opinions.

Stories are fun to hear, but I’m not sure they are that important.

Remember that everyone can have different ideas. When you discuss ideas, you are just sharing what you think. Other people may agree or disagree.

Use Verb Tense: Be and Have

When you discuss ideas, be sure to use the correct form of be and have.

In the Present:I am a big fan of stories! Stories are important. I have a great book of fables. Each fable has a moral, or lesson. One moral is “There is always another side of the story.”
In the Past:When I was little, I had a book of stories. They were all scary. The book had scary pictures in it, too. I had bad dreams from those stories! I was happy to give the book to my older cousin.
