How to Summarize A Presentation

  • 1. Identify the topic.

  • 2. Identify the main idea, or what the presentation mostly says about the topic.

  • 3. Stay focused on what is important. Leave out details that are interesting but not important.

People gave food to the hungry, tired runaways. They gave them safe places to rest or sleep during the day.

People gave the runaways food and shelter.

Use Precise Nouns

When you make a presentation or summarize ideas, state the information clearly. Use precise nouns in the subjects and predicates of your sentences.

Not Precise:A woman helped other people.
Precise:Harriet Tubman helped other enslaved people.
