Draft

When you draft, you begin writing. Use your ideas to begin your draft.

Revise

When you revise a draft, you make your writing better. First you need to know what a reader thinks of your work. Isabel read her story ending to a partner.

Then Isabel knew she needed to make changes.

Now follow these steps to revise your story ending.

  • 1 DECIDE WHAT TO CHANGE

Read to a partner. Ask your partner to retell your story. See if your partner can retell all the events. Do you need to add any details? Do you need to move any text to help your writing make sense?

  • 2 MARK YOUR CHANGES

If you need to add text, use this mark: illustration of caret insertion mark that looks like an upside down V.

If you need to move text, use this mark: illustration of proofreader's move mark, a circle with an arrow.
