Prewrite

When you prewrite, you gather ideas and choose your topic. You also make a plan for what you will write. Follow these steps.

• 1 CHOOSE A TOPIC

  Think about different kinds of crops that you like to eat. Choose two crops to compare.

• 2 COLLECT FACTS

  Research information about the two crops. Look through books, on the Internet, or ask a teacher or librarian for help. Write your facts on cards.

  A potato is a vegetable.

  Farmers plant seed potatoes with machines.

  Many potatoes are grown in Washington and Idaho.

  Farmers use a potato combine to harvest potatoes.

  Potatoes can be brown, gold, purple, or red.
