Mireya Mayor discovered a mouse lemur, a new species of primate. She carefully studied the mouse lemur to learn all about it. Then she presented the information to important people. Her research helped protect the mouse lemur’s habitat.
What if you could report on a specific primate to help protect its habitat? What information would you need? Select a primate to study, and deliver an informative presentation to your class.
1 Conduct Research Use books, periodicals, or the Internet to conduct research on a primate. Write relevant, or appropriate, questions about the primate. For example:
• Where does the primate live?
• What are the primate’s habits and behaviors?
Learn more about primates.
2 Focus Your Ideas Make notes to guide your research. Look for photos, too. Focus on three or four important points, and write facts and examples for each point. Decide what to include and what to leave out.
3 Prepare the Presentation Write an informative presentation based on your research. Organize your paragraphs by main idea and supporting details. Practice giving your presentation. Ask a friend to listen to it and ask you questions. Are the details clear? Is your presentation informative?
4 Give Your Presentation Explain the information in a way your audience will understand. Details and examples will help your listeners visualize the information in your presentation.
